On the occasion of our summer blockbuster [Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross](/exhibitions/marvelocity/), the museum commissioned 8 new life-sized superhero sculptures by area artists and youth groups.

Discoverable throughout Wilder Park are new works by Rafael Blanco, Nez Garza, Dave Pryor, and Charles Williams Jr. along with pieces created by Robert Apolinar with Elmhurst University students, Esmeralda Bolivar with the Elmhurst Pride Collective, John Nester with Glenbard North High School students, and Gloria Rivera with members of B. Unity & FOCUOS.

Learn more about the artists, youth groups, and their artistic process through our free audio tour. After you arrive at the park, scan a QR code at the first sculpture and it will guide you through the installation.

Featuring cover art, sketches, life-sized head busts, and more, _Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross_ celebrates one of the greatest artists in the field of comic books.

As a bold preview, we commissioned 8 life-sized [Superheroes in Wilder Park (May 6 & 7)](/exhibitions/superheroes-in-wilder-park/) by area students and artists. This public outdoor installation of will remain in Wilder Park through the end of July to coincide with the Marvelocity exhibition.

From his home in the Chicago area, Ross has revitalized classic superheroes into works of fine art by illustrating characters such as Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man, Storm from the X-Men, the Avengers, Black Panther and many more for nearly 30 years.

In addition to highlighting original art from his most recent book, _Marvelocity_, visitors will also learn about how Alex Ross developed into a great illustrator through his childhood drawings, preliminary sketches, paintings and 3-dimensional head busts of characters in the Marvel Universe.

Marvelocity: The Art of Alex Ross

Join us for this annual exhibition that highlights artwork created by students from District 205 schools in our galleries. Artists from 11 different elementary and middle schools will showcase their work from the 2022-2023 school year. Admission is free this weekend!

School District 205 Student Art Show

Celebrate your creativity by participating in this community art show co-presented with the Elmhurst Public Library.

All participants' work will be displayed at the museum Feb. 3-12. All artists will be celebrated at an [Artist Reception](https://www.elmhurstartmuseum.org/events/mini-art-show-reception/) at the Elmhurst Art Museum on Fri, Feb. 3 from 6-9pm.

**UPDATE:** All 425 mini canvas kits have been distributed and we are unable to give out more due to available gallery space for the exhibition.   
To participate, use your imagination and a little paint to fit EPL’s theme: Connect, Create, Explore. Return your finished canvas to the Library by Wednesday, January 25. Kits available while supplies last. Limit one per person.

Mini Art Show

Another wonderful display is up in the Guild Gallery for the Fall Members show. Admission is free and open to the public during regular museum hours.

An opening reception will be held on Friday Oct 21st at which time the show will be judged. Light refreshments will be served.

The multimedia exhibition will feature new work by the rising artist that reveals for the first time the origin story of his distinctive Bird City Saint character, which appears in over 20 prominent murals in Chicago and other cities.

Joseph Perez, best known as “Sentrock,” is a self-taught street artist who creates large-scale, colorful public mural works. He views street art as a gesture of compassion for his community and a powerful form of expression that encapsulates his Mexican American background, upbringing, and history. He developed his work from graffiti writing to his now highly stylized and recognized street art featuring the Bird City Saint character that wears a bird mask. He describes this signature mask as a means of an individual’s personal expression, strength, and hope.

For this exhibition, Sentrock presents a new signature mural in the galleries as well as animated video projections, a ten-foot-tall sculpture, a life-size birdhouse installation, paintings, and works on paper that reveal narratives about the Bird City Saint character, and its origins in the artist’s biography. The exhibition, across numerous galleries, will explore the dreams of a little boy living in an urban environment, the importance of his Mexican-American community, and why the boy has a bird mask.

Sentrock gives back to the Latinx community through various educational and mentor projects with local youth, food, and clothing drives in his neighborhood, and more. His recent projects include collaborations such as a summer youth workshop with Apple, collaborations with the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, plus brand ambassadorships with Chicago Fire, Footlocker, and more. His murals have been commissioned by the City of Chicago, Chicago Design Museum, Chicago Public Libraries, National Geographic, Chicago Fire, and others. More than 20 of his murals appear throughout Chicago, and in other cities such as Detroit, Miami, New York, Phoenix, and Los Angeles.

Dedicated programming will accompany the Sentrock exhibition, including a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, family day workshops, a conversation with the artist, and a special pop-up shop with Sentrock’s limited-edition merchandise. Sentrock: The Boy Who Wanted to Fly

Andy Warhol was one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century. During the summer of 2023, the Cleve Carney Museum of Art in Glen Ellyn will display an important exhibit, **_Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop_**. In conjunction with that display, the Elmhurst Artists' Guild will exhibit local art inspired by the work of Andy Warhol.

Andy Warhol’s large body of work focused on six themes: celebrity, consumerism, money, death and dying, identity, and animals. He is best known for his distinctive style, his image, and his tremendous voice in pop culture and the art world. The Elmhurst Artists’ Guild will exhibit artworks that somehow reference Warhol’s work while also honoring each artist’s own aesthetic.

As part of the worldwide exhibitions marking the 50th Anniversary of Pablo Picasso's death, the Elmhurst Art Museum will host an exhibition dedicated to the famed Modern artist. With multiple galleries of his work, the show will pay tribute to his lasting influence and legacy.

The three-part exhibition will include an introduction with works by Picasso and his contemporaries, a gallery focused on the artistic process of Picasso's late printmaking work, and a response by contemporary figurative artists today. The exhibition features loans from two private collections and works by artists Laura Berger, Liz Flores, Richard Hull, Leasho Johnson, and Jose Lerma.
